The end of Summer is upon us...Hello again! We are delighted that the heat has pretty much died down now and the weather is so much more agreeable for everyone. Pretty soon the cool air will be setting in and we are here for it! Weather-1\Garden-0! We so badly wanted to have a garden this year! We did not get to plant anything which has been such a bummer, but we have gathered some pallets and we are going to be using them over the winter break to make some raised garden beds! The new plan is to definitely start anew in the spring and get ourselves better prepared to finally get that plan in motion! Any helpful garden tips would be much appreciated y'all! September Bunny Updates:All of our babies did go to new homes last month (August) and we couldn't have been more proud of that! We have messaged all of the new parents and it seems like everyone is adjusting fine and loving their new life. Some folks haven't gotten back to us or updated us since they picked up the rabbit and it makes us very sad not to hear how the rabbit is doing. We hope that they are also doing well and we bless them on their new journey with a new family. Again, we can not stress enough that if something happens or you can not care for your rabbit, PLEASE reach out to us and we will take it back no questions asked. As a breeder, we are concerned and we care deeply about our rabbits well being. We stand behind all of the bunnies we have sold and would welcome any of them back home again. The Breeding Failures: Breeding is never as easy as it seems like it is. Rabbits are prey animals and with a 30 day cycle and two uteruses, a momma rabbit can get pregnant while pregnant! Bet you didn't know that! Losing one or two to a new momma is nothing out there in the wild. Momma Rabbits have no real emotional attachment to the babies other then instinct to feed them. As you can see from some of our videos, the momma rabbit kind of hops around the babies but rarely ever stays too close, or cuddles on them. A mother cat will carry her baby to you very proud - a mother rabbit will not pick you her baby at all. In the wild, nature decides which rabbits live or perish because of this. Inside of our barn, sometimes its very much out of our control who gets to live too. Hollands can be unpredictable; babies uncovered can get cold and die, double dwarf gene on babies is always 100% fatal, etc. Sometimes they are just meant to live for 2 days and that is it - despite every effort you can do to try and save them. This hobby is full of sorrowful times and we have had a recent streak of failed pregnancies, but most of the time - it is very VERY joyful and things go very well! Our Eden was a first time mother and her litter did not pan out like we hoped for her. Sometimes first litters don't work the way you wish them too and that is okay. Eden just celebrated her first birthday and prior to that, she hadn't been receptive to breeding at all. So while we had high hopes, the outcome was expected. We have since rebred her but she miscarried 23 days into her pregnancy. We will be trying once more with a different buck and maybe in cooler temperatures to see if this makes any difference. Our Rhett is a compact little love of ours from a wonderful friend from Decatur, Ga. Rhett has turned a year old now as well. We hope to keep her in our program but we think she might be struggling with her litters due to her compact size. She's a gorgeous bunny and we were lucky this past May, to get a boy and a girl from her, that we are going to try to continue on the beautiful type she has. She's going to take a break and we will regroup and see what we can do to get her to have a successful litter again. Endoras Babies!Miss Endora welcomed a full litter but not everyone was able to make it. That is due to the complications stated above but 4 little wigglers made it! They are a beautiful set that I am very pleased with. I can not wait to see what personalities arise from their little bunny minds. Hyacinths Babies! For now, that is all to report! Stay tuned for more babies coming and more news about our upcoming adventures! As always, Thank you for your support and reading our blog!
